The route starts at the Bandstand and finishes at the Drill Hall. Where it leads in-between is up to you! You'll walk to the top of the central town and back. Keeping an eye out for the Chepstow Heritage Trail plaques and marker arrows will be a good idea.
The clues should be easy enough that everyone will find their way round and back, but hard enough so that no-one will get all the answers right. No one!
Walk to the river and go downstream.
- Go downstream. Which way is that? Can you even trust which way the water is flowing?
- A cave, but with an oddly man-made look to it. Don't worry, we're only asking you to look at it, not to find how to get in there! #Q# What's the flag?
Keep walking, until you find a Boat that doesn't float, opposite a jetty that does. #Q# What weighed 1525 tons in 1882?
Keep walking until you see two and a half bridges. #Q# Who built the one that's only half left?
When the path stops being a path, turn around. This isn't a clue, we just don't want to lose you in the mud! Q# A Princess sleeps just ahead — but which Bob Dylan album?
Walk back upstream along the river to the Wye bridge. Views, not clues, on this bit!
Walk to England. Walk directly to England, do not pass further into England, do not collect £200. #Q# Which counties are you in? You can be half in one and half in another.
Q# When was the bridge built? Why didn't they build it any earlier?
Back to dry land, and head for the castle. Just before you get there, there's somewhere on the opposite side that might help answer some of your questions.
Q# Tourist information. What's in the fleet?
Walk up the side of the castle. Those who packed their Gravity Boots can take this literally. The rest had best follow the path up the Dell. #Q# Chepstow Castle has grown over the years and most parts are known for who built them. One large impressive tower though is named for someone who lived there instead. Who lived in one tower of the Castle, but never found Indemnity and Oblivion there?
Q# That's a strange seat, and it must have been cosy with four. Who does it commemorate?
Past a dry fountain, and out through a gate. Harmony is opposite, but we turn left. Q# The Bells, The Bells! Who and when?
Iron gateposts with names cast on. That seems to be a Chepstow thing - we'll meet those again.
Walk the route of the old Town Walls. Find what used to be the only way into the Town, and still one of the busiest. Walk through the arch - choose the longest arch, which goes through a newer building too. Q# What date over the council's door?
Cross back over the road to Pie Corner and turn right. Down Bank St and find the Bronze Boatman. Stone balls are carved with wisdom. #Q# What are London's fish like?
Carry on down the hill, on the more interesting side of the road, not the modern shops. #Q# The lights are out at the Electric Picture Hall. But when did they first go on?
Find Chepstow's U boat. #Q# Who does it commemorate?

The Dukes of Beaufort owned large estates here. Head towards their Hotel. Turn left, down the pedestrian street and find a very big number. #Q# Which number is?
Left at the first almshouses. Face the second, L-shaped, almshouses. #Q# What's on the roof?
Turn left, and find the Five Alls #Q# Who isn't wearing a hat?
Down Bridge Street. See the iron gateposts? Try looking at the floor spots too #Q# Where would you buy an iron gatepost?
Through the garden wall and through the garden. Through the new houses too. Watch out for the view back to the Castle.
Right up Church Road to the church door. Into the churchyard and round the back of the church. #Q# How many sides on the obelisk - it's not four!
Back up a bit (the gate might be open, or else out by the church door. Down the fenced walk through the churchyard. You're not on the coast, but there might be a path to it.
Past another church, with a memorial on the ground. Down Lower Church St #Q# Name, rank and squadron number!
Past the brush factory on your right. #Q# Which famous, but surprising, brush-related product was invented in Chepstow? The answer isn't here, but if you looked hard on the way round at something else brush-related, you might already have seen it.
Q# Who is keeping fit in the old fire station?
